Buying from a registered dealer
How buying from us works, in plain English.
Firearms law in the UK is precise, and so are we. Here is what you need for each kind of purchase, what we can post, and what has to happen face to face.
Rifles and shotguns
A Section 1 rifle needs a firearm certificate (FAC) with an open slot for that calibre. A Section 2 shotgun needs a shotgun certificate (SGC). We look at the original certificate, check the slot, and write the sale onto it before the gun leaves the building. That is the law, and it is also how we know the person walking out with a rifle is entitled to it.
If you are not local, we transfer RFD to RFD. You pay us, we send the rifle to a dealer near you, they do the certificate check and the handover. Receiving dealers set their own fee, usually between £25 and £50. Tell us which dealer to use and we will ring them.
We can also take a rifle in part exchange, or sell one for you on commission. Bring it in with your certificate and we will value it on the spot.
Air rifles and air pistols
You need to be 18. No certificate is needed for a sub-12 ft lb rifle or a sub-6 ft lb pistol, but an air weapon bought at a distance has to be handed over face to face. So it is collection from Bude, or a transfer to a dealer near you. Anything over the legal limit is a Section 1 firearm and needs an FAC.
Pellets, magazines, scopes and everything else for an air rifle can be posted like any other parcel.
Ammunition, powder and primers
Factory ammunition is sold against your certificate, in the calibres it lists and within the quantity it allows. Collect it from the shop or have it transferred to your local RFD. We do not post ammunition to individuals.
Bullets and cases are unrestricted components and go by courier. Smokeless powder and primers are certificate items: we need to see a valid FAC, and they go by a specialist carrier or are collected.
Everything else
Chassis, mounts, triggers, bags, bipods, reloading tools, cleaning kit and clothing are ordinary goods. Anyone can buy them, and we post them next working day for £5.95, free over £150.
Special orders
Most of the catalogue is order-in from the US and Europe. We quote a lead time when you order, usually two to three weeks, and we take payment when the item is here and checked, not when you click. If a maker changes the price between order and delivery we tell you before we charge you.
Returns
Stock items can come back within 14 days of delivery, unused and in the original packaging, for a refund of the goods. Special orders, anything sold on a certificate, and anything we have fitted or modified for you are excluded. If something arrives faulty, ring us and we will sort it.
Paying
Card through Worldpay, PayPal, bank transfer, or cash and card in the shop. Prices include VAT.

Questions we get most.
- Can I buy a rifle from you if I live nowhere near Bude?
- Yes. We transfer it RFD to RFD: you pay us, we send the rifle to a registered dealer near you, they check your certificate, record the transfer and hand it over. Most dealers charge £25 to £50 for receiving. Tell us who your local RFD is and we will sort the rest.
- Do I need to bring my certificate into the shop?
- For any Section 1 rifle, Section 2 shotgun or ammunition, yes. We have to see the original certificate, check the slot or the ammunition allowance, and write the sale onto it. A photocopy or a photo on your phone is not enough.
- Can you post an air rifle to me?
- Not to a private address. Since 2011 an air rifle bought at a distance has to be handed over face to face, so it is collection from Bude or transfer to a dealer near you. Air rifle parts and pellets can be posted.
- Can you post ammunition?
- Not to individuals. Ammunition is collected from the shop against your certificate, or transferred to your local RFD. Bullets and brass are unrestricted components and go by courier like anything else. Powder and primers are certificate items.
- What if I order something and change my mind?
- Stock items can come back within 14 days unused and in the packaging they came in, and we refund the price of the goods. Special orders from a manufacturer, anything sold on a certificate, and anything fitted or modified for you are excluded.
- How do I pay?
- Card through Worldpay, PayPal, bank transfer, or cash and card in the shop. For special orders we take payment when the item arrives, not when you order it.
